Duck Derby Makes a Splash!

The kids may be back in school, but the Elmhurst Parks Foundation is still riding the wave of excitement from our first-ever Duck Derby, held on Sunday, August 10 at Smalley Pool.

The community came out in force to cheer on 441 racing ducks, all adopted by friends, families, and supporters to raise funds for the Foundation’s Recreation Assistance Fund. This program provides financial support so that children in Elmhurst can participate in recreation programs they might not otherwise have access to — giving them the opportunity to play, learn, and grow.

Thanks to the generosity of our donors and participants, our inaugural race was a true celebration of community spirit.

We are especially grateful to:

  • Our incredible Elmhurst community for adopting ducks and joining the fun

  • Elmhurst Park District staff and Board of Park Commissioners for their energy and support

  • Our celebrity guest, The Elmhurst Duck, for helping make the day a success

  • Pour Destino, who added a surprise splash with a $100 gift card prize from their soon-to-open Spring Road location

The race ended with cheers as our lucky winners were announced (see the full list below), and the day was capped off with smiles, laughter, and plenty of photo-worthy moments.

We can’t wait to bring the ducks back to Smalley Pool next year and make this an annual Elmhurst tradition. From the bottom of our hearts — thank you for making a difference, one duck at a time.
